One M.S. Positions - Preferences and attitudes related to Hemlocks and Hemlock Wooly Adelgid I currently have funding available for 1 M.S. students starting in Fall 2008 to examine public preferences towards management and control of Hemlock Wooly Adelgid, and exotic pest threatening eastern Hemlocks. Interested students should email a cover letter and resume to Rebecca Moore at RMoore@warnell.uga.edu. One M.S. Position - Valuation of forest ecosystem services I am seeking one additional M.S. student interested in valuing ecosystem services to work on a project investigating the value of the non-timber benefits of forests in the southeastern U.S. Students will help collect and analyze original data to estimate the total economic value of standing forests. Funding for this project is pending; however, I expect it will be available for a Fall 2008 start. Interested students should email a cover letter and resume to Rebecca Moore at RMoore@warnell.uga.edu. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In addition to the specific position(s) listed above, I encourage potential students interested in the economics of natural resources and the environment to consider the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources for either an Master's or a Ph.D. Degree. Warnell offers a supportive, flexible program that enables students to develop a solid understanding of both economics and the natural sciences and to to apply this understanding to real world challenges of natural resource management.
I expect my students to enter with a strong quantitative (though not necessarily economic) background, and to be highly motivated to develop their own research project, either within the context of my existing research or on another topic related to economics and natural resources. The University of Georgia and the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources offer competitive assistantship packages for highly qualified M.S. and Ph.D. students.
